From April 26 to 30, 2026, the Shoura – the Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg organized a seminar for the imams of its member mosques in North Macedonia, under the theme: “Knowledge, Practices, and Contemporary Challenges of the Imam’s Work in Europe.” The seminar took place in the conference hall of Hotel Bushi, located in the heart of the Old Bazaar of Skopje. It was conceived as a shared journey of the imams together with the Chief Muslim Religious Leader of Luxembourg, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, with the aim of professional development, exchange of experiences, strengthening of fraternal ties, and discovery of the rich Islamic, cultural, and historical heritage of North Macedonia. The seminar lecturer was Hafiz Miralem Misini, holder of a master’s degree in hadith and Islamic pedagogy, who addressed, through lectures, discussions, and open sessions, several important topics related to the work of imams and the mission of da‘wa in the European context.
On Monday, the topic addressed was: “Knowledge, Practices, and Challenges of Calculations Related to Acts of Worship Faced by Imams in the European Union.” After the lecture and discussion session, participants visited the old town of Skopje as well as the Mustafa Pasha Mosque, one of the most important Ottoman monuments in the city. After the Maghrib prayer, a visit was made to the Hatundžuk Mosque, where the host was Imam Jasmin ef. Mujović. On this occasion, a warm reception was organized, with speeches by the Chief Muslim Religious Leader of Luxembourg, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, and the present imams. This visit also enabled participants to strengthen fraternal ties with the leaders and worshippers of the mosque, in a spirit of respect, exchange, and cooperation.
On Tuesday, after the Fajr prayer, the participants, accompanied by Hafiz Fatih Dertyok, visited the Hifz Center, where a fraternal gathering was organized around the recitation of the Qur’an by Hafiz Jusuf Mighbari and Hafiz Fatih. The activities and work of the center were also presented, allowing the imams from Luxembourg to gain closer insight into the efforts dedicated to the learning, memorization, and transmission of the Noble Qur’an. Subsequently, the program focused on the theme: “The Islamic Revival in the Balkans and Its Influence on Muslims in the European Union.” As part of the educational and field program, a visit to Ohrid was organized, during which participants visited the Sulejman Pasha Mosque, the city of Ohrid, and Sveti Neum. During this visit, educational sessions were dedicated to the traces of Islam and Muslims in the Balkans, their historical heritage, and their influence on Muslims living and working in Europe today.
On Wednesday, the topic addressed was: “Hadith in the Practice of the Imam’s Work and Da‘wa in the European Union.” After the lecture session, the Chief Muslim Religious Leader of Luxembourg, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, and the Secretary General of the Shoura, Lukman Aličković, were received at the premises of the Muftiate of Skopje by the Mufti, Dr. Qenan ef. Ismaili. The imam of the Hatundžuk Mosque, Mr. Dževad Hot, also took part in this reception. Together with his colleague and imam of the same mosque, Jasmin ef. Mujović, he generously supported the imams from Luxembourg throughout their stay in Skopje. During this meeting, a cordial welcome was extended to the delegation, with a presentation of the activities of the Muftiate of Skopje, as well as an overview of the work and activities of the Muslim community in Luxembourg. This meeting provided an important opportunity for institutional exchange, fraternal rapprochement, and joint reflection on the challenges faced by Muslim communities in their respective contexts.
After the Maghrib prayer on the same day, a visit took place to the Sandžak džemat in Ljuboš, where the host was Kadrija ef. Murić. Until the ‘Isha prayer, a religious program was organized, including Qur’an recitation, speeches by the hosts, and exhortations delivered by the present imams. The evening took place in a warm and fraternal atmosphere, marked by closeness, mutual respect, and spiritual sharing between the hosts and the imams from Luxembourg.
On the final day of the seminar, alongside preparations for departure, participants used the available time to visit a few more notable sites in the city of Skopje, thus concluding a program that was at once educational, spiritual, cultural, and historical. The seminar unfolded in a beautiful fraternal atmosphere, marked by beneficial lectures, fruitful exchanges, and valuable encounters. The particular value of this program lay in combining the professional development of imams with a concrete discovery of Islamic history and the contemporary life of Muslims in the Balkans. We pray to Allah the Most High to make this seminar a source of goodness, to bless the knowledge gained, to strengthen fraternal love, and to support the future work of the imams and the Muslim community in Luxembourg.
