Luxembourg: A Meeting Place for Scholars from the East and the West (Gallery)

Last weekend, one of the greatest scholars in the field of Quranic recitation, Dr. Ahmed Isa al-Masarawi, visited Luxembourg.

Sheikh Ahmed Isa al-Masarawi, an eminent hafiz and scholar from Egypt, is a significant figure in the Islamic world. Born in Egypt, he demonstrated exceptional aptitude for Quran memorization from a young age, becoming a hafiz very early and reviewing the Quran without looking at the mushaf, or the Quranic text, for 55 years. Recognized as an exceptional reciter, al-Masarawi is famous for his precise and melodic recitation of the Quran. As a professor, he has taught at numerous universities and Islamic institutes, transmitting his knowledge of the Quran and Islamic sciences. He has chaired and participated in many international commissions for Quran recitation competitions, raising their standards and motivating young Muslims. Sheikh Ahmed Isa al-Masarawi has a significant influence on the global Islamic community. His work in the field of recitation and teaching has left a deep impact, inspiring many young Muslims. He remains an exceptional figure in the contemporary Islamic world, with notable contributions in the field of memorization and Islamic sciences, continuing to inspire future generations of Muslims.

Sheikh al-Masarawi was impressed by what he saw in Luxembourg, a country that treats its citizens equally and without systemic discrimination. The sheikh was welcomed by the Islamic Association Le Juste Milieu – Maryam where, during a conference, he delivered an inspiring speech to the faithful, simultaneously translated into French by the mosque’s imam, hafiz Abdelhakim Badaoui.

The conference also saw the participation of reciters hafiz Atif Muhamud and Aliy Al Masri, as well as the mosque’s first imam, Sheikh Mustafa Turki. The gathering was greeted by the Muslim religious leader of Luxembourg, hafiz Hilmija Redžić. Additionally, the conference was enriched by a brief intervention from the scholar from Mecca, Dr. Ahmed Alu Abdul Qadir, who emphasized that he was truly honored to meet Sheikh al-Masarawi for the first time, and that too in Luxembourg.

Simultaneously, in the north of Luxembourg, the Medina Islamic Center hosted the most famous imam and preacher from Sandžak, Sheikh Sead Islamović, as well as Sandžak’s first qurra hafiz, Sabahudin Jerebičanin. On the first day of the weekend, they participated in a fundraising evening during which the necessary amount was raised to purchase a building in the center of this city, where this Islamic center will be established in the future. On the second day of the weekend, a conference was organized in the current premises of this center with the participation of scholars from Sandžak, the religious leader of Luxembourg, hafiz Redžić, the imam of the Gazi Isa-beg Islamic Center, hafiz Zikret Mustafić, and the imam of the Nordstad Islamic Cultural Center, Irfan ef. Hasanović. Such visits and events are a source of motivation for the faithful and an expression of honor for their daily work and contribution to the community and the society in which they live.
