Podgorica, 08.02.2025 – Following the successful visit of the delegation from the Meshihat of the Islamic Community of Montenegro to Luxembourg last November, a return visit by the Shoura – Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – took place yesterday in Podgorica. During this significant meeting, the delegations formalized their cooperation by signing a memorandum of understanding and collaboration.

Strengthening Ties and Institutional Cooperation

The Shoura delegation was led by the religious leader of Luxembourg’s Muslim community, Hafiz Hilmija ef. Redžić, accompanied by the Vice President of the Shoura, Muhamed Ćeman, Secretary-General Lukman Aličković, Secretary Damir Adrović, and Shoura members Sabahudin Selimović and Aldin Avdić.

On the other hand, the delegation from the Meshihat of the Islamic Community of Montenegro was led by Reis Rifat ef. Fejzić, in the presence of the Chief Imam of the Medžlis of Rožaje, Rejhan ef. Hot, and the Secretary of the Meshihat, Fuad Čekić.

During the meeting, Reis Rifat ef. Fejzić emphasized the importance of the institutional development of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, particularly through the enhancement of religious education, infrastructure projects, and the organizational strengthening of the community. He also stressed the significance of continuous cooperation with Islamic communities in the diaspora, stating that “we are all part of the same mission – preserving faith, identity, and unity.”

The religious leader of Luxembourg’s Muslim community, Hafiz Hilmija ef. Redžić, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and highlighted the importance of mutual support between Islamic communities in different countries to strengthen their role and position in society.

“Our visit is an opportunity to solidify our ties and work together on projects that will benefit Muslims both in Montenegro and Luxembourg,” said Hafiz Redžić.

Signing of the Memorandum – A Framework for Future Projects

At the end of the meeting, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation, thereby formalizing their future activities and joint projects. This document establishes a long-term framework for joint actions, focusing particularly on the following areas:

• Education and religious instruction, including experience exchange and joint programs
• Organization of cultural events, conferences, and forums promoting shared values
• Providing aid to those in need through humanitarian initiatives
• Exchange of religious authorities, imams, and experts to enhance knowledge and best practices

The memorandum also emphasizes mutual respect for each community’s autonomy, the promotion of mutual understanding, and solidarity among Muslims.

Joint Projects and Continued Cooperation

In addition to formalizing cooperation, discussions were held on concrete projects to be implemented in the coming period, including support for Muslims in the diaspora, the exchange of religious officials, and joint cultural programs.

After the meeting, the Shoura delegation visited the “Mehmed Fatih” Madrasah in Tuzi, where they met with the institution’s leadership and exchanged experiences on educational initiatives.

This meeting marks an important step in strengthening the institutional ties between the Islamic Community of Montenegro and the Muslims of Luxembourg, the majority of whom originate from Montenegro. It reaffirms a shared commitment to preserving Islamic identity and improving religious and social engagement.
