Central Khutbah: “The Treasures of Goodness in Ramadan” (Gallery)
Brother and sister, Ramadan is a month of immense mercy from Allah and an opportunity to fill our record books with good deeds that bring enormous rewards. Whoever seeks forgiveness, higher ranks in Paradise, and immeasurable blessings should devote themselves to the acts recommended by the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
The Virtues of Congregational Prayer
Ebu Umame (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever goes to the mosque to perform an obligatory prayer in congregation will receive a reward equivalent to that of Hajj. And whoever goes to perform a voluntary prayer will obtain a reward equivalent to that of ‘Umrah.”
(Sahih al-Jami’, hadith no. 6556 – hasan hadith)
According to Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever prays the Fajr prayer in congregation, then remembers Allah until the sun rises, and then prays two units of Duha prayer, will receive a reward equivalent to that of Hajj and ‘Umrah.”
(Silsilat As-Sahihah, hadith no. 3403)
Voluntary Prayers (Nawafil)
Ummu Habiba (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that she heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
“Whoever performs 12 voluntary prayer units during the day will have a house built for them in Paradise.”
(Muslim)
Night Prayer and Recitation of the Quran
Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever spends the night reciting ten verses will not be recorded among the negligent. Whoever recites one hundred verses will be recorded among those who stand in prayer for Allah. And whoever recites a thousand verses will be recorded among those who receive an immense reward.”
(Al-Mishkat, hadith no. 1201 – hasan hadith)
Visiting the Sick and Caring for Fellow Muslims
Ebu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever visits a sick person or a fellow Muslim, an angel calls out: ‘You are pure, your steps are pure, and a dwelling has been prepared for you in Paradise.’”
(Sahih at-Targhib, hadith no. 3476)
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Any Muslim who visits their fellow Muslim in the morning will have 70,000 angels praying for them until the evening. And whoever visits them in the evening will have 70,000 angels praying for them until the morning.”
(Sahih at-Targhib, hadith no. 2578)
The Power of Fasting
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever fasts for one day for the sake of Allah will be distanced from the Fire by the distance of one hundred years’ journey.”
(At-Tabarani, authenticated by Shaykh Albani – sahih li ghayrihi)
Ebu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever fasts for one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will place between them and the Fire a trench as vast as the distance between the heavens and the earth.”
(At-Tabarani)
The Virtues of Remembrance of Allah (Dhikr)
Amr ibn Shu’ayb reported from his grandfather that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever says ‘SubhanAllah’ one hundred times before sunrise and before sunset will receive a reward greater than giving one hundred camels in charity. Whoever says ‘Alhamdulillah’ one hundred times will receive a reward greater than one hundred horses prepared for battle in the path of Allah. Whoever says ‘Allahu Akbar’ one hundred times will receive a reward greater than freeing one hundred slaves. Whoever says ‘La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir’ before sunrise and before sunset will not be surpassed on the Day of Judgment except by someone who recited it as much or more than him.”
(Sahih at-Targhib, hadith no. 658 – hasan hadith)
Supplications and Seeking Forgiveness (Istighfar)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever seeks forgiveness (istighfar) for the believing men and believing women will receive a reward for each of them.”
(Sahih al-Jami’)
Ramadan is a unique opportunity to accumulate immense rewards. Let us not allow this blessed month to pass without performing these meritorious acts. Let us make the most of every moment by worshiping Allah, engaging in dhikr, and increasing our good deeds, so that we may attain His mercy and an eternal reward in Paradise.
