29th Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide: Schedule of Commemorative Events

As part of the 29th commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide, the Committee for the Commemoration of July 11th, Remembrance Day for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide, is organizing three major events between June 29 and July 2, 2024.

1. Commemorative Gathering – June 29, 2024

The first event, which will take place at the Bonnevoie Cultural Center, is a commemorative gathering scheduled for tomorrow, June 29, 2024, starting at 6:30 PM. This year’s participants include:

  • Representatives from the “Mothers of Srebrenica” association
  • Dr. Hikmet Karčić, Doctor and researcher in genocide studies and crimes against humanity

Please find attached the poster with all additional information. We would like to inform you that the event will be held in Bosnian.

2. Round Table – July 1, 2024

The second event is a round table that will take place next Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Cercle Cité in Luxembourg, starting at 5:30 PM. This event is organized in collaboration with the “Diplomacy Lab” of the University of Luxembourg and under the patronage of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Belgium and Luxembourg.

The theme of the round table will be: “Decoding the UN Resolution on the Srebrenica Genocide – Implications, Lessons Learned, and Future Perspectives.”

Among the distinguished guests who will speak:

  • Erol Avdovic, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Belgium and Luxembourg
  • Anne Goedert, Ambassador for Human Rights
  • Prof. Dr. Josip Glaurdić, Institute of Political Science, University of Luxembourg
  • Dr. Hikmet Karčić, Institute for Research on Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo

The moderator of the round table will be Ms. Sana Hadžić-Babačić.

3. Master Class – July 2, 2024

The third event is a Master Class organized by the Srebrenica Committee in Luxembourg in collaboration with the Diplomacy Lab of the University of Luxembourg. This Master Class will provide a platform for students to explore the historical context and contemporary relevance of the Srebrenica genocide, encouraging them to reflect on the broader implications for human rights and international justice.

Location: Maison du Savoir, Atelier Room

By integrating academic insights and practical applications, this Master Class aspires not only to educate but also to empower the next generation of leaders to uphold the values of justice, remembrance, and human dignity.

Important Note:

We invite the public to participate in the commemorative gathering tomorrow. However, due to the limited number of participants, registration for the other two events is no longer possible.
