The Shoura is pleased to invite you to a cultural evening featuring the film “The Builders of the Alhambra”, which will be screened on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 8:00 pm in Room 5 of Ciné Utopia (16, avenue de la Faïencerie, L-1510 Luxembourg).

Through this captivating documentary, based on the writings of the vizier, poet, historian, philosopher, and physician Lisan Eddine Ibn Al-Khatîb, we will discover the intentions of the “builders of the Alhambra”. In the 14th century, foreseeing the imminent end of Muslim presence in Spain, Sultan Youssouf I entrusted his vizier Ibn Al-Khatîb with the mission of embellishing and expanding the palace city of Granada. The result was a masterpiece—the Alhambra—destined to transcend the ages and become the most visited monument in Spain. With its incredible beauty, refinement, and technical achievements, this palace remains one of the most dazzling testaments to the greatness and richness of Islamic civilization as it flourished in Andalusia between the 8th and 15th centuries.

The screening will be followed by an open discussion with the audience, moderated by Jean-Luc Karleskind.

Additional note

To further explore medieval art, the Shoura will organize a cultural bus excursion to neighboring France on Saturday, November 8, 2025 (08:00 am – 6:00 pm).
This trip will offer participants the opportunity to discover what was being built in the region at the same time as the Alhambra.
