Commemoration on the National Day of the Resistance
On the occasion of the National Day of the Resistance, held on Sunday, 22 February 2026 in Luxembourg City, a ceremony was organized to pay tribute to the resistance fighters who courageously defended freedom and justice, and to remember in particular the 23 resistance members executed in Hinzert on 25 February 1944, as well as the role played by the Resistance during the years 1940–1945.
During this event, the Muslim Religious Leader, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, delivered an speech which we share below:
“مَن قَتَلَ نَفْسًا بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ أَوْ فَسَادٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَتَلَ النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا ۖ وَمَن أَحْيَاهَا فَكَأَنَّمَا أَحْيَا النَّاسَ جَمِيعًا”
“Whoever kills a person without that person having committed murder or caused corruption on the earth, it is as if he has killed all of humanity; and whoever saves a life, it is as if he has saved all of humanity.”
(Qur’an, Surah al-Ma’idah, 32)
“Today, we remember those who had the courage to stand against injustice. They show us that freedom and peace are not to be taken for granted. We must protect them.
Every life is valuable. By respecting and protecting one another, we honor those who showed courage before us.
May God grant us peace, purify our hearts, and guide us on the right path.
Amin.”
