Central Sermon: “Blessing in Our Homes”
Blessing (barakah) in a home is the tranquility and harmony within the family. Some people feel their homes are constricting due to their sins, even if they live in a palace. A home in which blessings increase is one filled with angels and from which devils flee—a home full of goodness. This is why seeking blessing for our homes is so important.
Reflect on how Allah inspired Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) to say:
“And say: ‘My Lord, cause me to land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].’”
(Surah Al-Mu’minun, verse 29)
Many things are described in the Qur’an as being blessed (mubarak).
Allah the Most High says:
“And this is a blessed Book which We have revealed, so follow it and fear Allah that you may receive mercy.”
(Surah Al-An’am, verse 155)
The blessing of the Qur’an is reflected in its memorization, and the heart that holds it becomes blessed and expanded. If a person follows its guidance, Allah will bless their life, increase their rewards, and elevate their rank.
Surah Al-Baqarah itself is a blessed surah, as mentioned in a hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
“Recite Surah Al-Baqarah, for taking it is a blessing, leaving it is a cause of regret, and the magicians cannot withstand it.”
(Tabari, Al-Awsat)
Three Duas That Changed My Relationship With the Qur’an
One of the righteous predecessors said:
“I didn’t understand anything from the Qur’an.
It was hard for me to read, I made many mistakes, and memorization was exhausting…
Until my shaykh told me:
In every prostration, recite these three supplications:
1. اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِالْقُرْآنِ
Allāhumma anfaʿnī bil-Qur’ān
O Allah, make the Qur’an beneficial to me.
2. اللَّهُمَّ ارْفَعْنِي بِالْقُرْآنِ
Allāhumma rfaʿnī bil-Qur’ān
O Allah, raise me through the Qur’an.
3. اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْنِي الْقُرْآنَ
Allāhumma ʿallimnī al-Qur’ān
O Allah, teach me the Qur’an.
From that day on, Allah opened for me doors of understanding and learning I never imagined.”
Never underestimate the power of a sincere duʿā.
The Qur’an is a gift, and duʿā is the key.
O our Lord, grant us blessing in our lives and in our good deeds!
O our Lord, bless our children and our spouses!
O our Lord, bless us in what You have taught us!
O our Lord, make us sources of blessing wherever we may be!
