Sadaqat al-Fitr for Luxembourg – Minimum Amount per Family Member: €10
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
Sadaqat al-Fitr (also known as Zakat al-Fitr or simply “Fitr”) is a mandatory charity to be given before the Eid prayer at the end of the month of Ramadan, for the sake of Allah. This obligation applies to every Muslim who has surplus food for themselves and those they support.
According to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the amount given for Sadaqat al-Fitr corresponds to one sa’a, which is equivalent to four full handfuls, representing what an average person can hold in both hands together. This measure can be converted into a monetary value based on the price of staple food items such as flour or rice.
For the year 2025, the Shoura – Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg recommends a minimum amount of €10 per person for Sadaqat al-Fitr. This sum allows one to fulfill this religious duty while also providing valuable support to those in need.
We remind the faithful that the head of the household is responsible for paying Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of themselves and all family members, including children. It is essential that this obligation is fulfilled before the Eid prayer, so that everyone can celebrate the occasion in joy and equality.
Fidya for Those Unable to Fast
Fidya is a compensation required from individuals who are unable to fast during Ramadan and who cannot make up for the missed days due to a chronic illness, old age, or another serious condition. For each missed day of fasting, Fidya is set at €5, which corresponds to the value of a meal provided to someone in need.
The payments for Sadaqat al-Fitr and Fidya are made exclusively through our affiliated mosques.
May Allah accept our worship during this blessed month of Ramadan and allow us to welcome Eid with joyful and purified hearts.
