Visit to the “Centre Islamique au Luxembourg” in Contern

Mosques in Luxembourg are experiencing a growth trend in all areas. The need for larger spaces is a present necessity in all mosques, especially during Friday prayers and Ramadan nights. This development is accompanied by numerous challenges, and one of them is effective management of the centers entrusted to committees. In order to support these quality committee actions, particularly their election, the Shoura actively supports these electoral processes and the proper functioning of mosque committees. In this context, on the last day of the past weekend, Sunday, February 11, 2024, the president of the Shoura, Jasmin Jahić, and the religious leader of Muslims in Luxembourg, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, attended the electoral assembly at the “Centre Islamique au Luxembourg” in Contern. The assembly began with the recitation of the Quran by the religious leader Hafiz Redžić. In their speeches, the president of the Shoura and the religious leader emphasized the importance of mosques and the values of dedication to their functioning. Out of twelve candidates, nine were chosen to assume the responsibility for the continuity of this center.

The “Centre Islamique au Luxembourg” is faced with a particular challenge, namely the selection of a new imam. Imam Muhamed Rizvić, after decades of work in this center, has left a great legacy, particularly in teamwork and the construction of a center distinguished by its interior. Additionally, for decades, numerous conferences and events have been organized at the center, in addition to Friday prayers and daily prayers. Mekteb classes have regularly taken place on weekends. The new imam will benefit from many technical facilities, but will face numerous challenges in working with an increasingly large community. We ask Allah to bless this center with a precious imam who will be another hafiz among the many imams in Luxembourg, whose number is already very significant.
