Reception of the renowned calligrapher Munib Obradović at the Shoura headquarters (Gallery)

As part of his visit to Luxembourg, an official reception was held at the headquarters of the Shoura – the Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – in honour of Professor Munib Obradović, one of the most renowned Bosnian and European calligraphers of our time.

Originally from Mostar, Professor Munib Obradović has for decades been regarded as one of the greatest masters of contemporary Arabic calligraphy. His artistic and academic career was built through many years of studying the Arabic language, Islamic sciences, and art in Cairo. He is particularly known for the numerous international awards he has received in the field of Islamic calligraphy. A laureate of several prestigious international competitions, especially in the thuluth style, his works and calligraphic compositions are among the most remarkable achievements of contemporary Islamic art.

Special attention from the artistic and Islamic world has been given to his participation in the calligraphic designs and inscriptions of the monumental Zamzam Clock Tower in Mecca, located in the immediate vicinity of the Holy Kaaba and considered one of the most iconic landmarks of the Islamic world.

During his stay in Luxembourg, Professor Obradović delivered several lectures and workshops dedicated to Islamic art, Arabic calligraphy, and the spiritual dimension of Islamic aesthetics. The programme included a lecture at the Islamic Association of Wiltz (AIWL), a lecture at the Islamic Association of Luxembourg (AIL), as well as a workshop and central lecture at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Luxembourg (CCIL) in Mamer, where participants were able to discover the richness and symbolism of the Islamic calligraphic tradition.

The visit of Professor Obradović to Luxembourg was also linked to the completion of the first level of the Islamic calligraphy course organised at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Luxembourg (CCIL) in Mamer, under the supervision of Mr. Halil Ahmetspahić.

On Saturday 09.05.2026, an official reception was organised in honour of Professor Obradović at the headquarters of the Shoura. Present alongside the professor were Hafiz Sead Subašić and Suad Godušević, as well as the president of AIL, Dawud Jusufović. The Shoura delegation consisted of the president Jasmin Jahić, the Muslim Religious Leader in Luxembourg, Hafiz Hilmija Redžić, the vice-president Muhamed Ćeman, Shoura member Ismet Jusufović, and the secretary general Lukman Aličković.

The discussions took place in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, exchange of experiences, and presentation of Islamic art and calligraphy as essential elements of Islamic civilisation and the spiritual identity of Muslims. Special attention was given to the importance of preserving the authenticity of Islamic art in our time, as well as to future projects and major artistic achievements awaiting Professor Obradović.

During the meeting, deep appreciation was expressed to Professor Obradović for his contribution to the promotion of Bosnian and Islamic art worldwide, as well as for his willingness to transmit his knowledge and experience to younger generations of artists and enthusiasts of Islamic calligraphy.
