Shoura’s Response to the Dismissal of a Teacher

The Shoura – Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg – recently welcomed a Luxembourgish teacher and activist committed to defending the rights of the Palestinian people, in order to hear her testimony following her dismissal.

During this meeting, the individual presented to the Shoura members the circumstances surrounding this event, as well as the pressures, misunderstandings, and forms of marginalisation she believes to have experienced in connection with her public advocacy for the protection of Palestinian civilians, an end to the war in Gaza, and the denunciation of crimes committed against the Palestinian population. She recalled that numerous international organisations consider these events as potentially falling under international criminal law, including the qualification of genocide. As widely reported in international media, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has formally requested arrest warrants for several Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The young woman also indicated that she has received broad support within Luxembourg society, including from members of the Jewish community—support which she considers deeply meaningful. She affirmed that her activism has never targeted any religious or cultural community, but rather grave and systematic violations of human rights. She further informed the Shoura that her case is currently in the hands of her lawyer and that legal proceedings are under way.

In this regard, the Shoura expresses its deep concern about the implications of this case, particularly with respect to the protection of freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, and the legitimate right to humanitarian advocacy in the face of serious human rights violations.

The Shoura hopes that justice will swiftly and impartially establish the facts in full, recognise and remedy any injustice that may have been committed, and determine, if applicable, the responsibilities that may arise from unjustified infringements upon her fundamental freedoms. The Shoura will closely follow the development of this case within the legal framework and in accordance with the principles it upholds.

Finally, the Shoura reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the rule of law and to the fundamental values of Luxembourgish society, including justice, human dignity, freedom of expression, and the protection of human rights.
