The Shoura Central Iftar Gathered Representatives of Luxembourg’s Muslim Community (Gallery)

On Sunday evening, the Grand Hall in Limpertsberg hosted a central iftar organized by the Shoura – the Assembly of the Muslim Community of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Once again, the iftar brought together leaders of the Muslim community, representatives of mosques, and Islamic organizations, including the Waqf Foundation, the Observatory of Islamophobia, the IREDI Institute, and other organizations operating within Luxembourg’s Muslim community. This event was an opportunity to honor their voluntary engagement and express deep gratitude for their contribution to social cohesion and the significant progress of the Muslim community.

The evening began with a recitation from the Quran, with verses read by Hafiz Edin Matović.

Following this, the president of the Shoura, Jasmin Jahić, addressed the audience. He highlighted the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and condemned the inaction of the international community in the face of this humanitarian catastrophe. He also pointed out the alarming rise in Islamophobia and invited attendees to participate in the Observatory of Islamophobia’s survey to better document and analyze the challenges faced by Muslims in Luxembourg.

The president of the Shoura also announced that the Doudhäl mosque in Esch-sur-Alzette had officially joined the Shoura, emphasizing the importance of this membership both for that mosque and for all Muslims in Luxembourg. He also reminded attendees of the fundraising evening organized by the Rahma mosque in Differdange, scheduled for March 15, and encouraged them to support the initiative. Additionally, participants were informed of the good news regarding the purchase of premises for the needs of the AIL mosque, located in Bonnevoie.

The religious leader of Luxembourg’s Muslim community, Hafiz Hilmija ef. Redžić, then addressed the audience, emphasizing that this event brought together the key figures responsible for the country’s Muslim community. He reminded them that the community was built on the efforts of honest and dedicated individuals and that its future depends on continued work in the fields of knowledge, creative engagement, and the development of individuals and waqf projects. He warned that individuals and communities without ongoing projects inevitably regress. Therefore, he stressed the necessity of initiating and maintaining projects as a fundamental condition for the community’s progress. He concluded by stating that the greatest value of the Muslim community remains piety.

On behalf of the Waqf Foundation, Nadhmi Amouri also spoke to present current projects and explain the significance and role of the Waqf Lëtzebuerg Foundation.

After the call to prayer (adhan) and the collective iftar meal, the evening concluded with religious chants (nasheed) in Arabic and Bosnian.

The moderator of the gathering was Elvir Trubljanin.
